Describe who/what this design is about

This is a logo for a national event in Washington, DC

The logo should be edgy and something that young and old will appreciate. It should express hope and optimism plus strength and courage. The logo should look good on t-shirts. A gold ribbon is associated with childhood cancer so that can be included.

We will be uploading a sample of our existing logo. Overall we like it a lot but there are some who do not like it because it doesn't include a gold ribbon which is the national symbol for childhood cancer. Ideally we would end of with a logo similar to what we have but with the gold ribbon incorporated in it. We do not want the logo to be too busy or complicated though.
